Does anyone know if they've passed the latest Airline aid package? I do not support this move. Giving aid immediately following September 11th felt like a good idea, but since it has been over a year since that event, any further aid seems like a handout. This is especially troubling coming from a republican administration and congress that championed the free market atmosphere airline deregulation was supposed to create. An aid package of this kind goes directly against that model.
The fact that Southwest and JetBlue airlines' business is booming should prove that the business model of the ailing airlines is at fault, NOT the industry climate.
Views?
And yes, I am resorting to this info because I cannot debate point by point Ian's statements. I do not have the time as of yet.
Also, there is a distinct lack of debate occuring on this website. I do not know all the reasons for it, but I recommend that those who wish to keep it alive, invite more people to the table. Preferable these people will be of disparate viewpoints, and add to the flavor of the site. Please no 'court packing' on an internet scale.
please fwd recommendations to my attention.
thx

Rafael: ' "It is time to sign on to a different kind of Middle East," national security adviser Condoleezza Rice said. ' i got a chill up my spine.
[09:21] VirtuLoyd: we are remaking the world
[09:21] VirtuLoyd: for better or worse
[09:22] Rafael: I know some who thinks it is better. Our arrogance is scaring me more.
[09:24] VirtuLoyd: personally, I think tribal and monarchal systems of gov't are not good for the people, so removing them would be beneficial to the citizens. However, an outside party being the catalyst of removal (us), I'm not sure about the repercussions for the long term US.
[09:24] VirtuLoyd: that's our angle
[09:24] VirtuLoyd: Not that that war is right or wrong
[09:24] VirtuLoyd: but the long term security goals of the US
[09:26] Rafael: It should be an internal process, and America's glumption to manipulate others into their own message, "sign on for a different kind of Middle East?" what the fuck? It shows our condescending perspective on what we are doing. It's colonialization with a more off handed aproach
[09:27] VirtuLoyd: mmmm
[09:28] Rafael: and being big father to nations 4 times the age of our?
[09:29] Rafael: To say this is purely economic is foolish, but it is throwing scare tactics around to make other countries (Syria, Spain, North Korea, Venezuela) fall in line.
[09:30] VirtuLoyd: mmm
[09:30] Rafael: I just feel we are fixing our problems with the exact tactics we used to get into them.
[09:30] VirtuLoyd: mmm
[09:32] Rafael: And that's all I'm gonna say about tha-at.

From Ars Technica.com:
And speaking of Apple, after reading this page it occurred to me that Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf, the (apparently erstwhile) Iraqi Minister of Information would make a great Apple spokesperson if only he could learn to wield a little bit of the RDF. Consider:
"Do not believe the lies of the PC infidels. The PC chips have not reached 3GHz. It is Apple that is at 3GHz. Our initial assessment is that the PC is still at 250MHz, and we will slaughter Microsoft in the server market and in the home. Our market share is at 90%."
We are in control. The PC users are in a state of hysteria. They do not even have control over themselves! Do not believe them! Losers, they think that by building fabs and plants and chips and trying to distort the feelings of the people they will win. I think they will not win, those bastards."
"NO! We have retaken the education market! The infidels attacked the education market but we have killed them all with bullets and shoes. There are NO PCs there. I will take you there to the public schools and show you. IN ONE HOUR!"
"When we were making the GUI, when we were computing with RISC and folder icons the grandfathers of Ballmer and little Gates were pecking around on the command line. PC losers are wild donkeys and deserve only to be hit with shoes."
